Hou-uThere is the old adage, "There is nothing harder than stone; there is nothing softer than water. Water easily makes holes in stone. If one is thorough going to the root of the heart, how can the awakening to the path of enlightenment not be fulfilled?" It does not matter how lacking in faith you are: if you allow (what you) hear to enter, then as long as you are within (Amida's) compassion you will receive faith. Simply put, the Buddha Dharma is realized through listening.

From Rennyo Shonin Go-ichidai Kiki Gaki, "Recording of what was heard during the life of Rennyo Shonin"

Dharma Rain is a Journal dedicated to the discussion of the difficulty and potential of Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Propagation
