President's Message

January

May we awaken to peace and happiness.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that each of you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. Along with each year, change comes; you have probably noticed that a gray old man has replaced the nice picture of Terri. Despite my picture, I am honored and privileged to be the president of your Sangha: I assumed the duty and responsibility of the Vista Buddhist Temple without hesitation or trepidations because of the dedication and support of our members. I am looking forward to working together with each of you in the upcoming year and I am filled with the eagerness, energy and enthusiasm that have been the trademark of the Vista Sangha. With the foundation that has been laid, we will continue the perseverance of our founding pioneers, the inspiration of Reverend Art Takemoto and the memories of past members with the theme of our campaign; "Building for our Future," for our future is now.

On behalf of the Sangha I would like to thank Terri, our past president, who has done a great job of leading our temple for the last three years in a positive direction in all temple areas. We appreciate all that she has done. In addition, every individual of our temple, young and old, has been an important and integral cog in the wheel that makes our temple move forward to the place we are today.

We will continue having the opportunity to listen and learn the Dharma from the ministerial staff of the Orange County Buddhist Church composed of Reverend Marvin Harada, Reverend Akio Miyaji, Reverend John Doami, Reverend Mutsumi Wondra, Mr. Bill Dearth and Mr. Jon Turner. We are fortunate to have this unique program and are grateful to the ministerial staff as well as the members of Orange County Buddhist Church. The Buddhist Education Committee has various activities and workshops in the planning stages for this year. Our traditional festival and fundraising activities will continue along with new projects and programs for all. Our many committees and organizations will continue for our many interests - please look for future announcements.

At our annual general meeting the 2010 VBT Board of Directors was elected. With gratitude I want to thank Stanley, Ros, Jerry, Ford, Sandy, Ricky and Mick, the elected board for their willingness and dedication to serve our temple. They are a group of knowledgeable, skilled and talented individuals who deal with the religious, operational and fiduciary needs of the temple - we are in good hands.

For 2010 we look to maintain our strong foundations while looking ahead at new and innovative ideas. Here at VBT, we will continue our efforts to be innovative and open to your suggestions. If you have a concern, idea or recommendation to improve our temple - please let me know. I believe that the building blocks of communication, teamwork and planning are essential while "Building for the Future."

Gassho, George Furuya
