A BIT ABOUT US

History of Vista Buddhist Temple

Vista Buddhist Temple (VBT) is the center of Buddhism in North County San Diego. VBT practices Shin Buddhism, also known as Jodo Shinshu or Pureland Buddhism, which is part of the Mahayana tradition. Officially dedicated as a temple of the Buddhist Churches of America in 1981, the sangha roots go as far back as the gatherings of Japanese immigrants in the 1930s. The temple officially opened its doors in 1987 and its vibrant community continues to gather and practice together.
